Let's introduce everyone to THE PROPHECY who hasn't heard of it shall we?

18160774

Growing up on a small farm in the kingdom of Vanguard, seventeen-year-old Layla Givens lives a deceptively tranquil existence. But her carefully constructed life quickly falls apart when she’s abducted by a religious zealot who proclaims her The Fulfillment of an ancient peace prophecy and whisks her away to marry her greatest enemy.

Wilhelm, Prince of the Ethereals, is reluctant to meet his new bride. He's grown up believing Vanguards are evil, an enemy to fight and fear...not love. Can he set aside his prejudices and work alongside Layla to bring lasting peace after centuries of war?

Nash, a loner who has never fit in, carries a huge secret, one big enough to destroy both kingdoms. When he accidently meets Layla, he’s no longer content to live in the shadows, but he must resist his growing attraction—for her safety and for the longevity of the two kingdoms.

When Nash's secret is revealed, a firestorm sweeps through both realms, with Layla at the center. Now she must choose between duty and desire while the fate of two nations hangs in the balance.

The Prophecy (The Fulfillment #1)

Back Cover:

Excerpt:

Even though she had no chance to escape now, Layla shoved the Elder with all her might. The blow sent him flying into the baker’s door, which splintered under the force, and she darted forward.  The Vanguard soldiers moved to block her.

“We are all Vanguards,” she pleaded. “Please let me go.”

For a moment, they hesitated.  Layla used the opening to slip around them.  She ran as fast as her legs would carry her, but they proved to be too slow.  Within moments, the soldiers leapt upon her, knocking her to the ground.  Wrenching Layla up by her hair, they dragged her back to the Elder, whose face now bled from his encounter with the baker’s door.

“I see you’re going to be trouble.” He brushed the dirt off his robes.  “You can’t escape your destiny, girl.”

My Thoughts:

IT'S FINALLY HERE!!! THE PROPHECY'S RELEASE DAY IS HERE!!!!! I have been waiting to read this book since April and it did NOT disappoint. THE PROPHECY met every expectation I had and more. From the first sentence I was captivated and I devoured this book quickly. It is definitely a "one sitting read".

For ALL the love I have for this book this has got to be one of the hardest reviews that I have had to write. I have gone back and forth writing it for a week and nothing ever seems to be good enough, or explain well enough why I think you should read it, or why I loved it. But I will give it a try. I feel that the description about does a pretty good job telling you about the plot so I'm just going to dive right in to what I loved about the book.

The characters were some of the best written ones I have come across in a debut novel. Erin really seemed to truly know her characters. They all had very distinct personalities to back each of them up. Layla was a fierce female lead. Even though she was thrown into a really messed up situation as being claimed as the fulfillment, she did what she had to do to keep her family and friends safe.

Along the way she meets Nash; mysterious, sweet Nash. (I love him by the way, I stake claim on him....just wanted all you ladies to know ♥) There is a wonderful attraction between these two that feels very real. I was very happy not to have a sudden "I love you" type relationship between them. Even though there are so many things that come up that make their relationship pretty much impossible I can't help but root for them.

One complication is Wil. WAIT WAIT WAIT....no I'm not leading you into a love triangle. While on the surface and without giving spoilers it may come across that this book will take you into a love triangle, but it really doesn’t. As part of being the fulfillment Layla is betrothed to Wil, it is practically her duty to marry him. I can't really say more than that because I don't want to spoil anything, but seriously it didn't get all “typical love triangle” on me. BUT I will tell you that you will want it to....yes you will. While I LOVE Nash, Wil is....ahhhh he's wonderful. Both guys are equally swoony and my guess is that ladies will be fighting over who they think Layla should be with no matter where her heart lays.

Some other characters that I really adored were Vespa, Grant, and Samson. While we don't get to see Samson a lot in this book I know he will be a big player later on in the series. Grant is just another amazing guy living in THE PROPHECY world, and Vespa is someone I would want to have as a best friend.

Of course with all the wonderful characters, there must be some evil ones. I'm not going to go through who those are, mainly because I feel like it will take away from the story some for you when reading. But just know that there are some REAL evil people and you will want them to die a brutal death when it is all said and done.

The world building is also beautiful and executed well. While the book is set mainly in the Ethereal kingdom, I felt like I was really there with Layla. My favorite part was the maze that kept the kingdom guarded. I also was intrigued by the Vanguards super strength, and the Ethereal’s powers to mess with others minds.

If you follow me on twitter you might have seen that I pretty much live tweeted the entire time I read this book. It gave me SO many feels it was unreal. I was happy, conflicted, sad, MAD, devastated, swoony, flailing, you name it....I was doing it. Anytime my emotions are tapped into that way it's a sign of an amazing book. As if the book as a whole wasn't wonderful and emotion provoking enough, Erin left us with a MAJOR cliffhanger. I have a love/hate relationship with those things. I love them because they make me want more NOW, I hate them....well because they make me want more NOW and I can't have it now. Erin leaves two MAJOR things happening at the very end that I'm still thinking about what it means for everyone, especially Layla. I definitely can't wait to get my hands on the next book.

I definitely recommend any fans of YA Fantasy, fast reads, and swoony guys read this book. I really don't think you will be disappointed.  This is without a doubt one of my favorite reads of 2013.

My Rating:

The Cover:

Releases November 15, 2013

Blurb:

“Everything must be taken down.”  A rotund man, with beady black eyes, surveyed the town, disdain in his expression.  While he did not appear distinguishable from the other black and purple clad men, he spoke with authority. “The First Ones and their great Prophecy must be honored properly.” He sniffed, his actions indicating the very existence of Medlin and its occupants offended him.
Layla wondered what this man considered a “proper honoring” of the First Ones.  The First Ones…they’d been dead for centuries, and, as far as Layla could tell, hadn’t done much in life except start a never-ending war.  She knew nothing more about them except that she was to thank them for good things, curse them for bad, and celebrate them on this day.
“That’s Elder Werrick, head of the Ecclesiastics,” whispered Samson, glancing back at Grant.  Layla noticed the look that passed between them.
Grant nodded his assent. “Get her out of here, brother.”
Samson tried to steer Layla away, but she held her position to get a closer look at the man whom her family so feared. She knew they had good reason to worry—her black hair and purple eyes marked her as a Fulfillment candidate, one with the potential to bring about the long awaited peace. But she couldn’t quite bring herself to believe Elder Werrick would notice her on the crowded streets, especially with her eye drops and hood. Could he really be responsible for dragging candidates from their homes, forcing them to undergo strenuous, sometimes gruesome, testing for the sake of the Prophecy?  To Layla, he looked like nothing more than a short, fat, unhappy man.  The very notion that he could strike such fear into the hearts of her people seemed almost laughable…almost. As his gaze swept over the crowd, she glimpsed a sinister undertone that made her shiver.
Waving his pudgy arms at the awaiting townspeople, Werrick commanded, “Take it down.”
Suddenly, his body stilled and his tiny eyes grew wide.  They briefly connected with Layla’s, narrowing with calculation.  The Elder turned to his nearest black clad companion.
“Do you feel that?” Layla heard Werrick ask.
The other man looked skeptical.  “Feel what, Elder?”
Werrick leaned in as the two whispered, stealing furtive glances in her direction.  When the Elder’s companion pointed at Layla, Samson grabbed her arm. She heard his breathing change from rhythmic to jagged as he pulled her away from the men.
“We have to go now.” His urgency spurred her into action.
Grant moved to block them from the Elder’s view.  “Get her away from here, Samson.”
The Elder looked up to see everyone staring at him as if frozen. He repeated his demand, “I said take everything down.”
The townspeople, joined by the Elder’s minion, scampered to remove their decorations, anxious to “properly” celebrate the First Ones.  Their flurry of activity concealed Layla as Samson and Grant escorted her away.  Layla scanned the streets, horrified, as the people of Medlin stripped the town’s center barren.  In no time, everything appeared as it always had, devoid of any celebratory adornments.  She looked up at the sky with its gray clouds lingering overhead.  A bad omen…
On the hill, a safe distance away, Layla watched a group of Ecclesiastics erect a monstrous stage where the donkey races should have occurred.  She heard the braying of the angry animals, harnessed and corralled on the orders of the Elder to avoid interfering with the “true” Day of Dawning celebration. Her ire rose.  Who did they think they were coming in and changing everything?
An icy, phantom finger traced a frigid line down her spine.  After hearing warning after warning from the Mantars her whole life, Layla knew exactly what the Ecclesiastics could do, what they had done to others in the past.  Maybe Samson and Grant had been right.  Maybe she should never have come, especially today.  Layla turned her back on the town, resolved to go home, to safety.
“Layla!” Samson’s alarmed tone sliced into her, and she swung around toward him.
To her horror, two Vanguard soldiers forced Samson to the ground.  She knew just how much strength he possessed, yet he couldn’t free himself. Her hands balled up into fists, shaking with their desire to unleash the full force of their fury.
“Run!” Samson screamed before a soldier’s fist smashed into his face.
His body stilled.  Panic, coupled with indecision, crippled her.  She should run like Samson commanded, but she couldn’t leave him lying there.  To her relief, Grant ambled toward them, his eyes full of rage.
“Run!” Grant echoed Samson’s warning.
With a final glance at the two boys who’d been as close to her as brothers, Layla fled.  She flew down the hill, swinging her head from side to side in alarm.  Ecclesiastics swarmed throughout the city, making a clear escape route difficult to discern.
Terror rose within Layla.  Why hadn’t she listened to her family?  She’d been foolish to believe she could sneak around under the ever-watchful eyes of the Ecclesiastics, and that hubris put Samson and Grant in danger as well.  She choked back a sob.
“Run,” she whispered.
Willing her feet to move forward, Layla darted toward the back of the baker’s shop, hoping to take a shortcut through the back alleyway.  She swerved to miss a wooden box and stumbled, arms flailing to right herself. Unfamiliar hands reached out to break her fall.  Once stable, Layla looked up to find Elder Werrick staring down at her.  She screamed but no sound came out of her open mouth.
“I’ve been looking for you,” he said, a wicked smile on his face.

Prophecy Blurb Release

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!!

Erin Albert released a blurb from her upcoming novel The Prophecy to me and the Team Prophecy website last night to let you guys read!!! And I'm still saying OMG!!!!!!! There are NO words for how much I am DYING for this book. COME ONE NOVEMBER!!!!!

Wednesday Watch (1) with Erin Albert

Every Wednesday I'm going to be featuring an author that I think you should be watching. I hope to be able to snag an interview with them as well. :)

My first guest author is Erin Albert! I'm super excited to be featuring her on the blog. I will be talking with her about recently winning an award and her upcoming book, The Prophecy, set to release November 2013. If you are on twitter and haven't had a chance to talk to Erin, you certainly need to take the time. She is always socializing with everyone when she can, which brings me to one reason why I wanted to feature Erin this week, she just won Bloggy Award's 2013 Most Social Author!!

Here is a little info on Erin:

"Erin Albert is an author and fitness trainer. Since she picked up Morris the Moose Goes to School at age four, she has been infatuated with the written word. She went on to work as a grammar and writing tutor in college and is still teased by her family and friends for being a member of the "Grammar Police." In her free time, Erin enjoys acting, running, kickboxing, and, of course, reading and writing. Her favorite place to be is at home with her family and easygoing tabby cat."

Q: So Erin, you just won the Most Social Author 2013 Bloggy Award! How excited are you??

A: I couldn't believe I even got nominated in the first place. Then, when I went on the site and saw all the amazing authors also nominated, I felt even more amazed. I mean, there were some seriously awesome people nominated. And to win...wow, there are no words. I'm so humbled that people voted for me. So, I want to thank everyone who cast a vote for me. I appreciate your support so much. Being the Most Social Author Bloggy Award winner is beyond words! :)

Q: You have dreamed of writing and publishing a book, but how does it feel since it's actually happening now?

A: I just got my third round of edits, and I still keep thinking I'm going to wake up and find out this whole thing has been a dream. It's surreal. I'm going to go pinch my arm again.

Q: Did you go to college for writing?

A: I originally went to college to be a teacher. My dream was to be a drama teacher, but my parents were SO not on board with that. I chose to be a Communication major instead. Many of the professors in the Communication department also taught in the Drama department. I still got to be in plays and stuff even though I wasn't technically a drama major. When I aced my first English class, in one of the most rigorous English departments around, I decided to look into that degree. I ended up majoring in Communication and working for the English department in their grammar and writing center as a paid tutor.

Q: What is your favorite book genre to read? To write?

A: My most favorite genres to read are fantasy, sci-fi, paranormal, historical fiction, and dystopian. I have written fantasy, sci-fi, and historical fiction. In terms of my style (which I'm told is formal-thanks English department), I think high fantasy suits me best.

This or That:

E-book or Physical book?
They both have benefits and drawbacks, so either as long as I can read something. ;)

Series or Stand Alone?
Series

City or Country?
City  (I'm shocked!)

Now that we have learned some general things about Erin, here are some questions about her upcoming book, The Prophecy.

Q: Tell everyone a little bit about The Prophecy.

A: The Prophecy is an epic high fantasy novel about a young woman who is kidnapped and proclaimed the fulfillment of an ancient peace prophecy.

Here is the link if you would look to see more information on The Prophecy's world and characters:
THE PROPHECY--World and Characters

Q: Were the books or characters inspired by anything/anyone in your life?

A: They are not based on anyone in my life, but they are inspired by my love of Game of Thrones and Arthurian legend.

Q: Who is your favorite character in The Prophecy?

A: I can't tell you that! ;) ......I tried lol

Q: How many books do you plan to write along with The Prophecy?

A: The Prophecy has two more books to go with it (tentatively titled The Outlanders and The Fulfillment). In addition to those, I'm working on a futurist thriller called Number 25598. I also have partial stories written for a middle grade fiction novel in the vein of Judy Blume and a chick lit women's fiction story. Waiting in the wings to perhaps one day be published (fingers crossed) is my adult historical fiction novel. ;) I plan to continue writing until my last breath, so I'll hopefully have lots of books by then!

Okay, so here is what I know some of you have been dying to see...I know I squealed when I read it!!! The first look at a mini-blurb from The Prophecy by Erin Albert.

Even though she knew she had no chance to escape now, Layla shoved the Elder with all her might. The blow sent him flying into the baker's door, which splintered under the force, and she darted forward. The Vanguard soldiers moved to block her.
"We are all Vanguards," she pleaded. "Please let me go."

Wrenching Layla up by her hair, they dragged her back to the Elder, whose face now bled from his encounter with the baker's door.
"I see you're going to be trouble." He brushed the dirt off his robes. "You can't escape your destiny, girl."
