Effortless With You by Lizzy Charles

***I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Swoon Romance, in exchange for an honest review.

Effortless With You

Goodreads Description:
18129111
School is out and Lucy is ready for the perfect summer: lazy days at the pool, invitations to the most exclusive parties, and romantic dates with her hot new boyfriend. That is, until she lands in trouble one too many times and her parents issue the ultimate punishment: a summer job. Suddenly, the summer can't end fast enough.

To make matters worse, the job is painting houses with Justin, the most popular, egotistical guy in school. Spending all summer with Justin might be other girls' dreams, but definitely not Lucy's. After all, Justin is cocky, annoying, and a jerk. So what if he's the most beautiful jerk Lucy's ever seen? Or that his grin makes her forget she’s mad at the world? Or that maybe, just maybe, there's more to Justin than Lucy realizes. Only one thing is certain: it won’t be the summer she wanted, but it might be exactly the one she needs.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely ADORE this book. It is one of the cutest, sweetest, heart-warming YA books I have ever picked up. I'm completely in love with the cover. It is beautiful and just puts a smile on my face. Lizzy Charles' writing had the same effect on me as the cover so it fits perfectly.

The main character Lucy is a 16 year old who is going through the same struggles as any normal teen her age would be; arguing with parents, fitting in, being cool in front of her friends, having a cute boyfriend, etc. She is an adorable girl that seems to be lost and just needs to find her way. She comes into some struggles between school, friends, and a certain crappy guy and this book shows a wonderful path of self-growth for her. I couldn't help but cheer her own along her path of finding her way and where she needed to be in life.

Justin is the popular, swoony guy with a HEART OF GOLD. I'm typically a big fan of the bad boys but I loved Justin. He was just too cute and so sweet. He comes off towards Lucy as being some superficial, arrogant jerk at first but he she soon finds out that there is SO much more to him. I applaud Lizzy for writing a YA male lead that treats a lady right for a change. *claps*

Another thing that I really enjoyed about this book is that the relationships that happen have FOUNDATION. So many YA books I read these days characters are throwing around "I love yous" at every glance and touch, which makes my head spin. Not this book though. This book is what a realistic relationship looks and feels like. I actually got to know the characters well and they got to know each other. It was refreshing to have a book not so overshadowed by romance but still had enough in there to make me swoon and want to cuddle it tight. This book highlights more character growth, friendships, and the path to getting to relationships. It was refreshing and I adored it. I can NOT wait for the sequel.
