Broaden Your Shelves Challenge

SO I got this idea when I was thinking about how I wanted to branch out in genres this year. Try a little something new or get more into a genre I'm not all that familiar with. Along the way asking for recommendations on Twitter I noticed a TON of other people saying they wanted to start trying new things too this year, and that was a goal for them, SO since I'm all social and love to do things with friends I present to you:

Broaden Your Shelves Challenge
(Meredith totally gets all kudos for name)

SO first off I would like to see how much interest there is in doing this to start with before I go through the steps of putting it all together. My ideas are to do something like this:

♥ One genre a month

♥ Read/review (reviews can be just a few lines) at least 3 books of the genre of the month

♥ I will choose 3 from recommendations I have been given, you can read those 3 or any other 3 you choose

♥ Every month my favorite out of the 3 I read I will do a giveaway for that book. (If it is something you already own you can choose a different one from the 3 I read.)

♥ You do NOT have to participate each month. If there is a genre you already read enough of and want to skip that month, that is fine.

I went back and forth about the giveaway but I have decided that since I'm already going to be hosting 1-3 giveaways a month for all my blog readers already that the giveaways for this challenge will ONLY be for the challenge participants! I will have prizes for both US or INTL participants. It will probably go a case by case on what the book is whether the prizes will be different for US/INTL each time.

Please let me know any questions or suggestions you may have! If you think you are interested please leave your link below. I'm hoping to get this started in February!

  2. I think this sounds great. I like that you do the whole skip the genre you already read enough in but what is enough really? lol

  4. This sounds awesome, Crystal!

Of course I just HAD to sign up. I might change my own personal goal to 2 books per month b/c I already don't read that many books a month, but I'll try to hit 3!

    I can't wait!

  6. Three books is a little steep, especially if you have obligated ARCs to read and review; AND most of us belong to at least one bookclub.

    1. Thanks for your input! I actually had someone else say the same so was thinking about knocking it down to two when I put up official post for sign ups! :-) Also any ARCs that you have that is part of the genre of the month can def be used for this challenge.

    2. If it was one a month I could do it. Infact, I did make a New Years promise to read more books outside of my comfort zone. I don't request ARCs in genres outside of my "zone" because if there are a limited number available it deprives someone who might be coveting that title from receiving it and, basically, I get nearly too many to read, now. This a fabulous idea. I just think one a month would be more doable. :)

  7. This sounds like fun! I only found out today about this though... I shamefully admit that I haven't been on your blog for a while *going to change this though!* but I do like this idea, and I would love to participate :)
